Raiders boys travel to Madelia; fall 74-48

The Raider boys traveled over to Madelia on Tuesday night to face off with the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks used great ball movement and their ability to get to the offensive glass to hand the Fulda Raiders a 74-48 loss.

Payton Marquardt led the Raiders in scoring with 16 points. He also added 4 steals. Tyler Madison finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists. Logan Erdmann added 10 points and 4 rebounds.

The early part of the game saw the Raiders commit 3 turnovers and miss 2 layups. Madelia was able to come down the floor and find the middle of the Raiders’ zone and get some easy scores. Madelia was able to jump out to a quick 16-4 lead, forcing a timeout from Fulda. The Raiders came out of the timeout and Madison was able to collect a steal and go coast to coast for a layup. He also found Marquardt in the corner for a 3-pointer. The Raiders were slowly clawing back into the game. But Madelia thought otherwise. They were able to get some defensive spots and forced the Raiders into more turnovers and they were able to push their lead back up to 22. Sam Cheadle was able to get an offensive rebound putback and then a nice driving layup, and the Raiders had cut their deficit to 18 at half – trailing 42-24.

Strong second-half leads HBC Patriots to an 85-65 victory over the Fulda boys

again on the road on Thursday night as they travelled over to Hills for their conference opener against the Patriots. Fulda competed hard throughout the game, but a strong second-half from the Patriots lead to a 85-65 loss for the Raiders.

Tyler Madison led the Raiders with 24 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Payton Marquardt added 15 points and 3 assists. Sam Cheadle contributed 12 points and 5 rebounds.

Unlike all their previous games, the Raiders came out to play right from the start. It was a back and forth affair throughout the entire first half. Cory Renneke was able to get the Raiders going with a 3 pointer. Madison was able to create some offense as he found numerous angles to drive to the basket. But HBC was staying right with Fulda, as they had an answer for each Fulda score. Cheadle was able to hit back to back 3’s from the wing to give the Raiders the lead for the first time in the game with 6 minutes left in the half. The Raiders held onto the lead for about a 3-minute stretch, while both teams struggled to score. A couple of turnovers from the Raiders and layups for the Patriots caused the momentum to swing a little bit in the favor of HBC, but Renneke was able to knock down another 3. HBC got an offensive rebound putback with 30 seconds remaining, and the Raiders didn’t get a good look on their offensive possession, which caused another layup for the Patriots right at the buzzer to give HBC a 41-36 lead.
