| Bean Harvest Well Underway |
FULDA FREE PRESS/Norma Dittman Soybean harvesting began slowly last week as farmers found the beans were a "little too wet". |

Dust rolls across the fields as many different makes and models of combines work to harvest a bean crop that was planted in early spring.
For farmers who have waited and wondered about their crops throughout the changing weather patterns in this area during the growing season, harvest time is a reward.
It's a beautiful sight to a farmer to watch as the browned, dry plants are cut and roll into the machine. With a turn of the machine operator's head, the golden round grain can be seen as it mounds into the grain tank behind the driver.
Elevator reports, gathered Tuesday morning from around the area, state that the bean harvest is going very well this week.
Darrel Bruns, owner of Bruns Elevator Company, Inc., Iona and Wyrock, reported that "harvest is going pretty good. Right around here, the farmers are about one-half of the way done with beans. Saturday's 80 degree weather helped to dry the beans down fast."
Kevin McBreen, employed by New Vision, Inc., at Dundee, MN, said that bean harvest in that area is a little under half done. "The beans started out a little too wet last week, but they are dry now. The bushel numbers seem to be fairly good with reports of high 40's and low 50's bushels to the acre."
Jim Bose, Lime Creek Ag Services, Inc., Fulda, commented that "Farmers right around here are probably about 25% done with the bean harvest. The bushels are respectable, but not as good as last year. Ground conditions are nice. When the harvest first began, the beans were a little too wet. Now the quality is excellent. They are nice clean beans."
At Schmitz Grain, Inc., Lake Wilson, Gary Busse said. "Ground conditions are good, yields are fair, the beans are a very nice size. We dumped 188 loads of beans yesterday, working until 9 p.m. last night. "
Other reports from around the area are much the same, stating that...bean harvest is going quite well...and everyone hopes that the weather holds the warm, sunny pattern of the past few days. |
