Over 35 years ago, area men began to pray that God would direct them in their decision to establish a non-denominational

spiritual retreat and camp center in southwestern Minnesota. They were led to a 220 acre hilly, heavily wooded property called Lost Timber. As the land was part of a farm, there was a barn as well as a building that housed both a hog barn (one the lower level) and a chicken coop (on the upper level.)

Thirty-five years after the purchase of the land, Lost Timber Bible Camp continues to offer a pictureques, relaxing, and fun setting for young people to further develop their faith, and to come to a closer relationship with God. As a non-denominational ministry campers from all religious backgrounds are welcome at Lost Timber Bible Camp.

Karl Schmitke, Chandler, MN, serves as director at Lost Timber Bible Camp. He also teaches at the Chandler Christian School Dave and Cherie Dirks are resident managers, and Aaron and Emily Ahlquist are the registrars.

The Board of Directors is comprised of Tim Thiessen, President, Clover, SC; Dwayne Dean, Vice President, Hudson, WI ; Emily Ahlquist, Secretary, Rushmore, MN; Albert Brouwer, Treasurer, Slayton, MN; Aaron Ahlquist, Rushmore, MN; Claire Dean, New Brighton, MN; Lenny Hulstein, Chandler, MN; and Ken Manning, New Brighton, MN.

Lost Timber Bible Camp offers solid Bible teaching. This year’s theme is “Not of this World.” Campers will be learning about God's creation, the vastness of the universe and how to live their lives with an eternal purpose in mind. Breakaway Camp (grades 7-9) will be held June 14-20. June 21-17 is Senior Camp for grades 10 through college freshman. During July, campers in grades 3-6 have two opportunities for camping: Trailblazer I Camp week is July 6-11 and Trailblazer II Camp will be held July 13-18.

A typical day at Lost Timber Bible Camp begins with an exercise program, according to Director Schmitke. Breakfast is ext, and sometimes quiet breakfasts are observed when the campers must experience breakfast with absolutely no talking. If there is a need for an item to be passed, hand signals are used to indicate what is being asked for. Following breakfast is cabin cleanup, and then Chapel. Chapel begins with praise and worship often followed with a special speaker, and Bible study. Next are team activities, and then a break with lunchtime to follow. After lunch campers normally participate in swimming at the beach followed by a period of rest. This is an opportunity for campers to study and learn Bible verses which are being taught during the week. And then comes free time with campers having an option to ride horses or play some of the many sports that are offered including GaGa Ball, tennis, soccer and many more.
