It started as a challenge from Mike and Sue Zins’ daughter, Laura Mitchell...and grew and grew. Because of Mitchell’s challenge, over fifty members of the Zins family participated in the Miss Fulda 5K Run/5K Walk that was held during this year’s Wood Duck Festival - “Woody Salutes Veterans.” Mom Sue, who has had multiple knee surgeries thought her daughter was joking when she first emailed her with the challenge. But then family members began agreeing to participate. Sue explained, “ Our daughter, Laura Mitchell, came up with the idea of challenging everyone who was attending the Zins reunion to step up and support the Miss Fulda program. She said it would show unity in the family and was a great way to work off some of the great food we had eaten up town!! So a few entered and then more and more jumped in. Many runners were egging on the former runners to show what they had left in them and Laura even challenged them to run against a pregnant mom (Laura)! Those with bad knees and hips and whatever other ailments prohibited them from running joined in the walk. We had walkers from California, Florida, North Carolina and many cities in Minnesota. The Zins family never seems to do anything in a small way and all felt this run/walk is for a very good cause. The family is already planning to participate again in 2010, as well as have a Zins family float in the parade. They Zins family would like to challenge other families to do the same and support Fulda!!” Over fifty members of the Zins family participated in the 2009 Miss Fulda 5KRun/5K Walk.
