"There’s probably no-one around that would have guessed that there was gold to be found in Nashville, Tennessee!!! Fulda FCCLA members set off on Friday, July 10th in search of that ellusive prize--gold! They boarded a chartered bus bound for the National FCCLA Leadership Meeting. After arriving on Saturday afternoon, all fun turned to serious preparation for the upcoming STAR Event competition. This year, the Fulda chapter sent five entries and all five were rewarded with gold medals! They competed along with 2,800 other FCCLA members in the national competition.
Members participating in STAR Events are as follows: Jared Mitchell in Interpersonal Communications, Abby Hubbling and Brittney Fischer in Chapter Service Manual, Amanda Bierma in Chapter Service Display, Marti Holinka, Max Kaufman and Tara Salentiny in Chapter Showcase Display-Sr., and Malory Roberts in Chapter Showcase Display-Jr.
Congratulations to all of these Fulda students on planning and completing very successful projects.
Another Fulda FCCLA member, Bridget Enninga, also attended the meeting and took part in the leadership training as she is a state officer for the upcoming year. She attended the national USA training along with the other seven officers.
Competing is still another part of the National meeting was Heidi Enninga. She was representing MN as an at-large candidate for national office. The first step was to present a 3 minute speech and being interviewed by a 12 member team of FCCLA members. This group asked questions and presented situations which were then scored in order to select the top 12 candidates. Heidi was selected as one of those 12 and then proceeded to present her speech another time and be questioned before the entire group of voting delegates. This time the group of 12 would be narrowed to 6 and those 6 would serve as National officers for the upcoming 2009-2010 FCCLA year. Heidi was not elected but she represented MN extremely well. Good job Heidi! Maddie Kaufman also attended the meeting as a delegate. Mitch Winter and Mrs. Elder were also in attendance to chaperone the group. Mrs. Elder served as a Lead Consultant for one of the STAR Events.
Some of the other meeting highlights included attending the three general sessions. One of the Keynote speakers was Ken Weichert, Staff Sergeant from the Army National Guard. After serving three stints in Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom, he and his wife founded START Fitness.
Students could also participate in the career exploration tracks. One group toured the Dave Ramsey office and another toured the Aquarium Restaurant.
Being in Nashville, TN certainly meant a tour of the Grand Ole Opry and attending the Tuesday night performance. Just seeing the stage where country music got its start was certainly an experience. The group also had the opportunity to travel to downtown Nashville to eat at the famous Jack’s Barbecue!!!! After the STAR Event awards were read and the gold medals claimed, the group once again boarded a chartered bus and headed northwest and back home to MN!
The Fulda FCCLA chapter would like to thank the school administration and board members for supporting the members and also the Fulda community who also lends a hand with the organization. We certainly appreciate all of your support."
