Students at St. Paul’s Lutheran School were treated to a Health Fair on Monday afternoon where they learned about Germs and Handwashing, Healthy Eating and Nutrition, Diabetes, and Heart Health.
Four individual booths were set-up throughout the school to aid the students in learning about these four important areas of their health and fitness.
Alyssa Overman, MT from Murray County Medical Center, aided by Teresa Andert, talked to each class of students about the importance of proper handwashing. to demonstrate her point, Overman handed the students a piece of construction paper, telling them to be sure to pass it around to one another. The students’ then were given a blue light lotion to rub on their hands and asked to enter a small black tent equipped with blue lights. They were quite appalled at the germs that were detected on their hands.
Overman then instructed the students to wash their hands or to use the sanitizer that was provided. What was discovered is that washing hands removes germs much more effectively than the hand sanitizer.
