The Murray Country Board of Commissioners expressed their appreciation to the many volunteers who assisted this past week in placing the aerators in the various lakes within the county. Only two places remained by Tuesday and were expected to be finished that day.
The clothing shelf in the Legends building is in need of more space, therefore the board considered several options to utilize the space within the building.
Paul Horn and Karen Tommeraasen, board members from the food shelf, added input and suggestions that would also address some of the space needs. The food shelf began in 1983 by Murray County churches and volunteers and continues to serve the needs in Murray County. Five years ago the Food Shelf was incorporated and served 2,613 people and 38,000 pounds of food to an average of 67 families a month. In 2009, 3,217 people received over 62,000 pounds of flood to an average of 91 families per month. Donations are received from churches, schools, business- es and organizations as well as individual, cash donations and grants. The food shelf also received nearly $10,000 stimulus money to buy food locally. The food shelf is open every Wednesday afternoon. You can help with donations of food, household supplies and personal hygiene items and may bring to the food shelf any Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. or by contacting any of the board members. Volunteers to help with distributing the food, unloading the trucks, etc. may assist by contacting Paul Horn or any board member or the RSVP office at the Human Services building.
