The Fulda Raider volleyball team had all they could handle Thursday night against the Flying Dutchman of Edgerton Public. The Raiders would get the first point of the set but never took commmand after that. We played well, keeping it close behind kills from Myah Holinka and Rachel Cheadle but couldn't sustain enough offense to overpower the Dutchman. Fulda loses first set (21-25).

In the second set Fulda came out flat. Our serving wasn't on target giving Edgerton many opportunities to pull away. Fortunately our defense stepped up. We had a timely back row attack from Brittney Hermeling taking us out front by two 9-7 and later Amanda Schumacher would have a block at the net to increase our lead to 17-11. Edgerton however would not give up and inched back within 3 points when Rachel Cheadle killed the ball giving us a 21-17 lead, Fulda grabs the second set (25-21).

Our serving improved in set three, Dani Hermeling put across 5 straight points from the serving line to give Fulda the early lead at 8-4. Things would finally start going the Raiders way. Myah Holinka had a great game at the serving line and was strong at the net throughout the set. Fulda would take a 2-1 set advantage (25-19).

Set four found the Raiders lacking the drive to put the match away. Once again our girls were unable to contribute much early from the serving line. Rachel Cheadle had convincing defense at the net to try and keep us close. Fulda had a few missed hits which put us down 3-10. Fulda took a time out to talk things over. Mallory Pagel came back and was able to get serves in but Edgerton answered right back. Cheadle again was strong at the net getting us close at 14-16. Despite a strong spike from Brittney Hermeling getting us to 20-23 it wasn't near enough (20-25) we find ourselves tied 2 sets to 2 sets.

The fifth and deciding set would see the Raiders fire themselves back up. Fulda had a good sized lead early on. Rachel Cheadle had excellent ball placement and serving to hlep establish a lead by the score of 6-2. Fulda would never see their lead vanish and was able to seal the victory 15-12. This gave the Raiders the first conference win of the year.
