Raiders have thrilling game against Ellsworth

The Fulda Raiders hosted the Ellsworth Panthers for parentís night, Thursday. This being the third game of the week for the Raiders, they were hoping to seal a victory. Game one, the Raiders proved that they have what it took to get things going their way. Caitlin Strenge had a great serving performance to start the evening which gave us a 5-1 lead. Ellsworth worked their way back when Dani Hermeling had an ace block to keep us on top 7-5. Fulda continued to stay on top, Brittney Hermeling had an ace serve to give us the advantage 9-5. Ellsworth takes a time out and came back out and took command. Game tied at 13-13 when Myah Holinka records a kill 14-13. Ellsworth answers back; the score goes back and forth. Fulda down 17-20 when the Raiders take a time out. Rachel Cheadle comes back and gets a kill to get the momentum back to Fulda. The game goes down to the wire, Fulda loses set one 24-26.

Game two would also be a see saw match throughout. Fulda missed some crucial serves early on and found us down 2-6. Amanda Schumacher gets a kill to bring us within one 6-7. Both teams were able to keep it close. Fulda takes a time out (16-19) to regroup. Raiders fight on; a kill by Cheadle and a block by Courtney Tiesler get us to 21-22. It was not enough, Fulda drops second set 21-25.

Fulda seemed determined to not give up. The Raiders came out and took command of the third set. Fulda played well throughout the set; the Panthers were only able to tie the set twice and never could take the lead. Cheadle, B. Hermeling and Holinka all had impressive kills in the set. Fulda got the win 25-14.

The Raiders displayed complete team unity in game four. Mallory Pagel come out and served the first seven points of the game. Ellsworth tried to get some offense going but never did. Great hustle and hitting by the Raiders proved way too much for the Panthers. Dani Hermeling had an awesome save from the bleachers to put us on top 17-10. Fulda never looked back; Raiders tie the game 2 sets to 2 sets (25-12).

Fulda was able to take the match to a fifth and deciding game. All parents in attendance would be given quite a show. Fulda took command 5-2 following a kill by Courtney Tiesler. Panthers come back and tied the set at 7-7 when the Raiders took a time out. Fulda still couldn't find the answer to stop the attack until Rachel Cheadle got a kill to bring the score to 8-13. With Myah Holinka serving, and timely block and kills by the front row, Fulda ties the set at 14-14. Cheadle records a kill score 16-16. Ellsworth misses a serve 18-17, Ellsworth answers 18-18. Myah kills the ball to give us the advantage 19-18, but Ellsworth gets the next two point (19-21), game, set, match Ellsworth.
