Tough outing for Raiders in Westbrook

October 4, 2012

Monday evening
Westbrook was the setting for a conference match between the Fulda Raiders and the Westbrook Walnut Grove Chargers volleyball teams. Coming off a tough lost to Pipestone, Monday evening, the Raiders wanted to post a win and get back on track. The first set showed the Raider’s determination to bring home a victory. Mallory Pagel started off by serving four consecutive points with one ace. Chargers miss a serve and Brittney Hermeling serves for Fulda, she records two aces and the Raiders find themselves with the lead 9-1. WWG would not be denied and slowly started to pick away at our lead. Fulda would not be able to repeat their serving percentage from Monday night and let the Chargers take the lead 14-11. Both teams found the open spots on the court, tying the set at 16-16 following a Rachel Cheadle kill. Unfortunately, the Chargers would prevail and take the first set 22-25.

The next set was all Chargers. The Raiders were down early by the score of 1-7. The Raiders never saw the lead during the entire set. Amanda Schumacher had an awesome block to help Fulda’s cause; but they couldn’t string enough points together to break the WWG’s offense. The second set ends 12-25.

Fulda couldn’t ignite their fire and found them on the losing end 9-25 to end the third set and match. We did have some spirited kills by Myah Holinka and Rachel Cheadle during the final set, but the Raiders could not stop the attack of the Chargers. The next action for the Raiders will be in Jeffers, Tuesday, Oct. 2, following the B –Squad team. Come out and cheer them on.
