Fulda FFA Members receive American FFA Degree

Two members of the Fulda FFA Chapter were awarded the American FFA Degree at the 85th National FFA Convention on Saturday, October 27th at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Kirsten Pagel and John Salentiny joined 3,151 other FFA members who received the highest honor that the National FFA Organization can bestow on its members. Only one half of one percent of the national FFA membership meets the extensive requirements to receive their American FFA Degree. Members must meet criteria of documented earnings and investments through their Supervised Agricultural Education (SAE) Program, ($7,500 in earnings and $ 7,500 in net worth increase) and display outstanding leadership development through their involvement in local, state and national FFA activities. In addition members must have attained the Minnesota State FFA Degree and be interviewed and recommended for the American FFA Degree by the Minnesota State FFA Advisor.

Kirsten Pagel, daughter on Theane and Michael Pagel of Fulda, is a 2010 graduate of Fulda High School and a Junior Agriculture Major at the University of Minnesota. Pagel’s five year SAE was in the area of Poultry Production and Landscape Management. Pagel served in numerous leadership roles serving as Fulda FFA Chapter and Minnesota FFA Region 6 President, and was also Fulda’s first state FFA officer as she was elected the 2010-2011 Minnesota State FFA Reporter. Pagel was active in all chapter activities and competed in Public Speaking, Poultry Evaluation and Meats Evaluation Career Development Events at the state level for four years.

John Salentiny, son of Margie and Steven Salentiny of Dundee, is a 2011 graduate of Fulda High School and a sophomore Agriculture Major at South Dakota State University. Salentiny’s four year SAE was in the areas of Forage Production and Beef Feeders. Salentiny’s successful SAE projects earned him the 2010 and 2011 Minnesota FFA Region 6 Proficiency Award in Forage Production and the 2011 Minnesota FFA 3rd place finish in that proficiency award area. Salentiny, the 2011 Star Chapter Farmer served the Fulda FFA as Chapter Sentinel and President and was a member of the Crops Judging Team that competed at state four years.

Fulda FFA Chapter Advisor Mike Pagel commented that,” Receiving the American FFA Degree is the culmination of the past years of hard work and determination, I had the privilege of working with these outstanding FFA members and I wish to congratulate these two individuals and their parents on the attainment of their American FFA Degree”.

Suzanne Pagel, Jocelyn Schreier, Mallory Pagel, Laura Williams, Cole Dierks, and Jordan Clarke, members of the Fulda FFA Chapter, joined more than 55,000 student members of FFA and their teachers from throughout the U.S., Puerto and the Virgin Islands at the 85th edition of the National FFA Convention & Expo. at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Lucas Oil Stadium and the Indiana Convention Center in Indaianapolis, Indiana October 24th-27th. In addition to these individuals, John Salentiny and Kirsten Pagel were awarded the American FFA Degree - the highest degree of membership in the National FFA Organization. Members of the Fulda High School delegation were joined by Advisor Ms. Kelsey Carlson.

Nine general sessions brought tens of thousands of FFA members together at a single time under a single roof during the four-day event. In addition to the general sessions, the FFA members from Fulda had the opportunity to visit the Agricultural Expo, an event that showcased nearly 400 corporations, businesses, organizations and colleges at the Indiana Convention Center, and attend a concert by The Band Perry at Lucas Oil Stadium.
