Putting on a school musical at Fulda Public Schools hasn’t exactly been an annual event. In fact, it’s been 8 years since the last musical was performed by the Fulda School students. Last spring, after the community play was over, several students expressed interest in doing a musical this fall, and that planted the seed which became the start of putting on this falls musical “The Wizard of Oz,” which will be performed on Saturday night, December 1st at 7pm, and Sunday, December 2nd, at 1pm on the stage of the Fulda Elementary Gymnasium.

In September once the musical was selected, auditions were held, roles were cast, a rehearsal schedule was posted, and the process got underway. Linda Lund, Heidi Appel, Sherri Isder, and Mike Peterson are heading up the project with lots of assistance from Roxanne Kenney, Carolyn Beerman, and Peggy Rachuy. Ron Renneke and Dean VanOort have been busy building set pieces, Ron and Cheryl Janssen are lined up to run the sound system and video taping, Karmel Holinka and Sheila Crowley will be helping out, and the students are working at getting into their characters, as well as painting the set and finding the props. Over 60 students are going to be on stage, including 30 ‘munchkins’ from grades K – 5.

Anyone interested in assisting with this production is encouraged to call one of the directors.

In the meantime, mark your calendar for these dates, and watch out for ‘Lions, and Tigers, and Bears.’ Oh, My!
