Soft, melodious strains of Somewhere Over the Rainbow punctuate Dorothy’s (Rachel Cheadle) desire to find a land where peace and harmony reign...somewhere far away from her farm home in Kansas. The song is part of the musical “The Wizard of Oz” which will be performed on stage at Fulda Elementary School this weekend on Saturday, December 1st, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 2nd, at 1 p.m.

A cast of sixty students from Fulda High School and Fulda Elementary School have been rehearsing to bring “The Wizard of Oz” to the stage in Fulda. The story begins as Dorothy and her dog, Toto, encounter a very unfriendly, cantankerous neighbor, Miss Almira Gultch (Mallory Pagel), who wants to see Toto gone forever. Dorothy pleads her case to her Aunt Em Gale (Carmen Olsem) and Uncle Henry Gale (Thomas Salentiny), only to find that they really don’t have time to listen to her plight.

She then goes to the hired farm hands Zeke (Todd Peterson), Hazel (Sariah Cheadle), and Hadley (Taylor Kenney and explains to them that Miss Gultch wants to take Toto away. They, too, tell Dorothy nothing that she wants to hear. Those seemingly unsympathetic listeners cause Dorothy to decide to run away from home ...to a land where there are never any problems...somewhere over the rainbow.
