Robert Bloemendaal was born on July 10, 1932 in Melvin, Iowa to Frits and Johanna Teeselink Bloemendaal.  He grew up in Melvin until 1942 when the family moved to a farm near Lake Wilson, MN.  Robert graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1950.  He enlisted in the United States Army on November 20, 1952 and served in Korea.  Following his honorable discharge on November 5, 1954 he returned to the family farm.  On November 17, 1956 he and Dorothy Larson were married at the Lake Sarah Baptist Church near Slayton.  Following their marriage they farmed in Lowville Township, Murray County for a short time before moving to a farm in Leeds Township, Murray County.  In 1960 they moved to the Midway Farm east of Lake Wilson and farmed for 38 years.  Robert also was a seed salesman for Sokota, Agri-Pro, and Garst.  In 1998 they moved to Slayton.  Robert passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at his home in Slayton at the age of 80.  Robert was a charter member of the First Reformed Church in Slayton and served as deacon, elder, Sunday school Superintendent and treasurer, sang in the church choir and Praise Team.  He also was a member of the Lake Wilson American Legion Post for 48 years.  Robert served on the Slayton Community Chest Board, as RSVP volunteer and 4-H leader.  He served on the Minnwest Bank Board from 1971 to 2009, the Lake Wilson, Chandler-Lake Wilson and Murray County Central School Board for 23 years, Chandler Coop Board for 9 years with 3 as chairman, and Murray County Fair Superintendent of Agronomy.  Robert enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his children and grandchildren in school activities, concerts and reading. 

 Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Bloemendaal of Slayton, MN, six children and their spouses, Ruth and Terry Schmidt of Katy, TX, Mark and Lori Bloemendaal of Orange City, IA, Mary and Tom Mesner of Chandler, MN, Leah Bloemendaal and Bart Graves of Benson, MN, James and Amy Bloemendaal of Warsaw, IN, and Jon and Kristen Bloemendaal of Edgerton, MN, 18 grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew, and Jason Schmidt, Andrew Bloemendaal, Janna and Kadrian Hardersen, and Davis Bloemendaal, Daniel and Tina Mesner, Lydia and Brandon Diekmann, and Paul Mesner, Alexis and Abigail Graves, Riley, Hanna and Olivia Bloemendaal, and Devin, Jaden, Brinna and Liana Bloemendaal, one sister, Judy Kereakos of Rochester, MN and one sister-in-law, Rosella Bloemendaal of Shakopee, MN.  He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Peter Bloemendaal, brother-in-law, Steve Kereakos and parents-in-law, Paul and Evabelle Larson.

 Funeral Services were held at First Reformed Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark Ellens officiating.  The organist was Viola Hoekman.  The pallbearers were his grandchildren.  Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN.
