Fulda/MCC Warriors have busy weekend in Redwood Falls

December 20, 2012

The Fulda/Murray County Central Warrior wrestling team had another busy weekend with a two day tournament. This past weekend, they traveled to Redwood Falls to take on 27 other teams in a double elimination style tournament.

With the amount of wrestlers that competed in the tournament, the level of competition was high. In fact, only one wrestler for the Warriors placed in the top six for the entire tournament. Some were able to win a couple matches, but others fell early and didnít bounce back.

Clayton Hartle was the first of the Warrior wrestlers to be seen on the mat and his first match up in the 113 pound class was against Abdi Ali of Minneapolis South. Hartle had a good start to the tournament as he was able to advance by fall in 1:53. After the win, he was paired up with Zack Kuhns of Maple River. Hartle wasnít able to get anything going in that match as Kuhns was able to move on by technical fall. Hartle moved down a bracket for a second chance and was matched up with Adam Kunz of ROCORI. Kunz also was able to halt Hartleís progress as he bowed out of the tournament by fall.

Tate Meyer competed in the 120 pound class and struggled his first match, but was able to bounce back slightly in the second chance bracket. The Freshman from MCC was matched up with Nick Erbes of Marshall where he fell in 1:56. During his second match, Maple Riverís Prince Bade wasnít able to get anything going against Meyer as a pin was called in 4:36 to allow Meyer to move on. Benny Garcia of BOLD was Meyerís final match of the tournament, however, as Garcia was able to get the pin on Meyer.

It wasnít until the 170 pound class where the Warrior team seen a win. Ben Loosbrock, one of the Seniors from MCC. was able to win a few matches. His first match up came against Zach Pederson of Sartell. Loosbrock wasted no time in that match as he moved on by fall in 46 seconds. Aaron Lalim of Quad County was the next opponent for Loosbrock. Just like the first match, he was able to move on by fall, but that time it was in 2:41. Joe Weeding of Dawson Boyd/Lac Que Parle Valley was in his way of going to the Semi-Final round. The match went the distance, and Loosbrock was able to gain enough points on Weeding to win by decision, 6-2. In the Semi-Final round, Loosbrock had high competition against Adam Cooling of Madelia-Truman. Loosbrock was able to do everything he could to get to the final round, but Cooling was able to defeat him by decision, 11-4. His run was not done there. Alex Hatch of BOLD stood in his way of the 3rd place match. Loosbrock and Hatch were neck and neck for the entire match, but Hatch had just a slight edge in the end as Loosbrock fell by decision, 7-6. He was placed in the 5th place match instead, where Dillon Parpart of NRHEG took the win by decision, 7-5.

In the 220 pound class, Brian Behrends had a good run as well. After a first round bye, he was paired up with Brian Hagberg of Wabasso/Red Rock Central. Behrends wasted no time in moving on as he was able to pin Hagberg in 1:30 to face Nathan Rose of Sibley East. In that match, Rose did the same thing to Behrends, earned a pin in little time. That loss sent Behrends to face Adam Evenson of Canby where Behrends again earned a pin, that time in 2:42. Chase Norton of KMS had other ideas for Behrends as he ended Behrendís run with a 7-2 decision. However, Behrends had a chance to wrestle for 7th place against Trevor Nissen of BOLD. In that match, it was close all the way through. He was able to take the 7th place spot with a 5-3 decision over Nissen.

The Warriors next matchup is in Fulda on Thursday, December 20th.
