Fulda BPA members test their skills at Region 8 competition

Fulda High School BPA members tested their skills at the Region 8 Workplace Assessment Skills Competition in Granite Falls on Friday, January 25th as well as their computer skills on December 20th. The awards presentation for all of the events was held this past Friday at the conclusion of the judged events at Granite Falls. BPA members that competed in the assessments were: Bennett Appel, Brett Cuperus, Kole Kramer, Andy Oakland, Laura Williams, Mallory Pagel, Suzy Pagel, Matthew Kunerth, Ryan Shumacher, Marissa Kunerth, Madison Dibble, Jocelyn Schreier and Caitlin Strenge.

Laura Williams placed first in Entrepreneurship. Williams was required to develop an operating plan for a small business to potential investors at a bank with the objective of securing financing for their business. She presented a writen business plan along with an oral presentation and responded to questions about her entrepreneurship.

Madison Dibble, Suzy Pagel, and Marissa Kunerth placed 1st in Presentation Management Team. They created a multimedia presentation for this year’s topic which promotes the values and experiences of BPA members and how these experiences set individuals with BPA experience apaart from the competition when hiring individuals fo key leadership positions.

Jocelyn Schreier placed 3rd in Human Resource Management. She was given thirty minutes to develop a solution to a workplace problem solving scenario and presented her solution before judges. She was evaluated on her problem solving skills and oral presentation.

Mallory Pagel placed 2nd and Matthew Kunerth 4th in Interview Skills. They created a cover letter and resume and application form before the contest and Friday they were involved in an oral interview for their job openings.

Andy Oakland placed 1st, Kole Kramer 7th, and Matthew Kunerth 10th in Advanced Word Processing in which they completed a word processing test in 90 minutes or less. Bennett Appel placed 2nd and Marissa Kunerth 5th in keyboarding.

BPA members competed against students from Worthington, Madelia, Ortonville, Chokio-Alberta, MACRAY, Marshall, Springfield, Comfrey-Cedar Mountain and Luverne. Students were judged by business professionals and college professors from the surround area.

The Minnesota State Spring Leadership Conference will take place in March at Minneapolis.
