Minneota Vikings hand Fulda Raiders a non conference loss

Once again having to pull deep down inside to play a Saturday matchup following a Friday night game, the Fulda Raiders faced the Vikings from Minneota. Knowing how tough they are, the Raiders came out strong in the first half. Brittney Hermeling hit a three to start the game giving the Raiders the lead 3-0. Rachel Cheadle hit consecutive shots to put Fulda up with a 7-4 advantage. Playing good defense and passing the ball gave the Raiders success in the first 8 minutes of the opening half. Minneota battled back and took the lead with seven minutes until halftime. Both teams battled to out distance them from the other, but they remained close. Fulda went into intermission down by one point, 24-25.

The second half was the Raiders downfall. Fulda could not contain the attack by the Vikings and soon found themselves behind 24-33. Scoring by Rachel Cheadle, Sariah Cheadle and Melissa Gehl narrowed the deficit to 29-38 but the Vikings came charging back. Minneota scored the next 7 points to extend their lead to 45-29 before Gehl hit a jump shot. Laura Williams hit a three pointer late in the game to put the score at 40-61. Another 3 pointer by Myah Holinka would be all the offense Fulda would have, final score Raiders 43- Minneota 67.

Raider scoring went as followed: Brittney Hermeling (5), Amanda Schumacher (4), Melissa Gehl (11), Sariah Cheadle (3), Rachel Cheadle (12), Myah Holinka (3) and Laura Williams (5).

Seniors last home game was sweet with victory over Murray County Central Rebels

Fulda 61 - MCC 56

The second time these teams would meet proved to be a much better game than the first. The initial meeting had the Raiders dominating the Rebels in every aspect of the game. Fulda opened up the scoring on the night from Amanda Schumacher (2 points) and took the early lead. That would not last long, MCC came storming back and scored back to back baskets taking a 4-2 advantage. Brittney Hermeling (8 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals) hit a three to give the Raiders them a lead of 7-6. Scores by Sariah and Rachel Cheadle (22 points, 10 rebounds) extended our lead to 14-9 before the Rebels went on a run of their own. Fulda found themselves playing catch up down by the score of 14-17 but Fulda answered and baskets by R Cheadle and Myah Holinka (2 points) put the Raiders ahead by one. The scoring would go back and forth. Tied at 22-22, MCC once again went on a scoring spree and Fulda fell behind 29-35. Fulda answered and went into the half down by the score of 33-35.

The second half was an early battle, Sariah Cheadle (13 points, 5 assists) scored the first two buckets in the second half for the Raiders and the score was dead locked at 37-37. R Cheadle dropped in a shot and Melissa Gehl (6 points, 6 steals and 5 rebounds) scored two free throws to give Fulda the lead 42-39. MCC came back and took the lead. Courtney Tiesler (8 points) answered, sinking a three pointer to give the Raiders the lead which they held for the remainder of the game. Rachel Cheadle and Tiesler took control from there and Fulda secured the victory 61-56.

Thursday night was the final home game for six of the Raider Seniors: Rachel Cheadle, Brittney Hermeling, Amanda Schumacher, Maddy Westra, Laura Williams, and manager Bret Gehl. They were honored with a reception following the game in the cafeteria.

Fulda Raider girls lose to Adrian Dragons

Fulda needed to get a victory in Adrian to climb in the standings in the Red Rock Conference. Fulda currently in third place behind SWMC and Adrian hoped to gain a game on the leaders but the Dragons outplayed the Raiders in both halves of the contest Tuesday in Adrian.

The Raiders would go behind early and wouldn't see a lead the entire game. The first score for the Raiders came at the 14:45 mark coming from Melissa Gehl who led Fulda with 17 points. Gehl would find the basket shortly thereafter and Fulda came within two at 4-6, but Adrian would answer and took control of the game. The Raiders had a tough time finding the open shot and Adrian did a great job of rebounding, both offensively and defensively. Fulda who usually has success hitting three point shots was the victims tonight. Adrian had a total of ten baskets from down town. Fulda was only able to score two 3 pointers coming from Amanda Schumacher and Courtney Tiesler.

Coming out from half time behind 19-37, everyone was hoping to see the Raiders take command and make a game of it. Unfortunately, that was not the way it played out. Adrian continued their dominance and went back to their scoring ways. Fulda struggled to stop the outside shot and couldn't hit on their end. The Dragons took home the victory by the score of 33-58. Other contributors on the night were Courtney Tiesler 5 points, Sariah Cheadle and Amanda Schumacher each had 4 points apiece. Brittney Hermeling added 2 and Randi Tiesler put in one.
