GuidePoint Fulda telepharmacy opened on Wednesday morning after a year and one half of planning and construction.

The telepharmacy offers many services including giving area residents the ability to fill prescriptions without traveling out of Fulda.

Pharmacist Jason Turner received approval late in September of 2012, from the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy to establish the telepharmacy in Fulda. Turner is a managing partner of GuidePoint Pharmacy based in Worthington, MN.

At a telepharmacy, there is constant audio-video contact between the pharmacy technician and a pharmacist. When a prescription is brought or called into GuidePoint Fulda Pharmacy, the pharmacy technician contacts the pharmacists at GuidePoint Worthington. She explains the doctor ordered prescription to the pharmacist, sets out the bottles of the drugs that have been ordered and lays the medicines out for viewing through webcam by the pharmacist. Once the pharmacist has made positive identification of the medicines, they are then filled by the pharmacy technician.

“We are required by law to have a tele-conference with each and every person who receives their prescription medicines from the telepharmacy,” Turner explained. “We have a private conference room where the customer sits down at a computer and the pharmacy technician contacts the pharmacist in Worthington to let them know that a conference is needed. The customer can see the pharmacist and the pharmacist can see the customer. The customer will pick up the telephone that is next to the computer to talk to the pharmacist. The pharmacist explains the prescription in detail.”

Pharmacist Mark Freeburg is currently at GuidePoint Pharmacy Fulda every Monday. To read the rest of this article - pick up a copy of this weeks Fulda Free Press or subscribe to our eedition at http://eedition.fuldafreepress.net
