Kelsey Heppler, a senior at Fulda High School, and Courtney Heppler, an eighth grade student at Fulda High School both attended Shadow Day at the Minnesota State Capitol on Tuesday, March 12th. The pair were representing the Fulda Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Their mission was to advocate for the FCCLA in an attempt to encourage legislators to keep funding in place for the organization.
Arriving at a hotel in Roseville at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the Heppler sisters joined several other FCCLA members from around the state for a two-hour training sessions prior to going to the State Capitol building.
At the State Capitol, Courtney was assigned to shadow Senator Bill Weber. Her day included time spent with Senator Weber’s legislative assistant who explained to Courtney what her job entailed. She also received a tour of the State Capitol building.
Courtney then joined Senator Weber in a committee meeting where several bills were being proposed.
When that meeting ended, Courtney and Senator Weber arrived back in his office in time to meet with lobbyists.
