FLOYD HANSON
1916-FLOYD HANSON-2013

Floyd Vernon Hanson was born on December 27, 1916 on a farm in Lime Lake Township, Murray County, Minnesota to Albert and Marthea Hagen Hanson. The family later moved to a farm near Dundee, MN where Floyd attended country school and as a young boy sang in the church choir. On June 20, 1949 he and Marian Herrmann were married at the Lowville Lutheran Church near Hadley, MN. Following their marriage they farmed near Dundee until 1955 when they moved to a farm near Fulda, MN. In 1959 they moved to a farm north of Dovray, MN later purchasing that farm. They retired in 1973 but remained on the farm. In April 2013 Floyd moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton and passed away there on Friday, June 7, 2013 at the age of 96. He was a member of Our Saviorís Lutheran Church in Dovray. Floyd enjoyed gardening and because he grew and sold so many potatoes, he earned the nickname potato man. Floyd especially enjoyed spending time with his family. They have many fond memories of him singing to them and dancing with them at family weddings, even at the age of 95.

Survivors include his wife, Marian Hanson of Currie, MN six children and their spouses, Ricky and Louise Hanson of Brooksville, FL Linda and Tom Messenbrink of Avoca, MN, Gary and Julie Hanson of Currie, MN, Shirley and Butch Scarset of Westbrook, MN, Steven and Angela Hanson of Maplewood, MN and Lee Hanson of Currie, MN, 23 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Bruce Hanson, grandson, Nicholas Hanson, three sisters, Thelma Hanson, Alma Mattison and Edna Marquardt, and seven brothers, Rudolph, Edwin, Richard, Henry, Bernard, Sidney, and Lawrence Hanson.

Funeral Services will be held Our Saviorís Lutheran Church in Dovray, MN on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Gene Alms officiating. The pianist is Marian Johnson. The pallbearers are his grandchildren. Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Our Saviorís Lutheran Church in Dovray from 4-7 p.m. and also from 10:00 to 11:00 on Friday at the church. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton is entrusted with arrangements. To view online obituary and send condolences visit totzkefuneralhome.com.
