Held Wednesday evening
Laura Williams, daughter of Kerry and Jana Williams, Brewster, MN, was crowned Miss Fulda on Wednesday evening during the Miss Fulda Pageant that was held at Fulda High School.

Williams graduated from Fulda High School in May.

Five contestants participated in this year’s Miss Fulda Pageant. They were Kelsey Heppler, daughter of Steffany Heppler; Micaela Paulzine, daughter of Paulette and Kelsey McNab and Michael Paulzine; Jade Ternus, daughter of Melissa Lancaster and Travis Ternus, Williams, and Kelsey Zins, daughter of Roger and Karyn Zins. This year’s contestants were escorted by their mentors. Each contestant wrote a short speech as to why they had chosen that particular person as their mentor. Heppler’s mentor was her grandmother, Virginia Anderson. Paulzine’s mentor was her mother Paulette McNab. Ternus’ mentor was Kathy Steiner, who is a very special person in Ternus’ life. Williams’ mentor was Sharon Carroll, her BPA advisor; and Kelsey Zins’ mentor was her mother, Karyn Zins.

Contestants were judged on a personal interview, poise, a talent, a table display depicting their life, their answer about what one item on their table means the most to them and why, and the question “What is the most difficult issue facing young people today?”

Talents displayed by the contestants included a flute solo by Kelsey Heppler, dances by Jade Ternus and Micaela Paulzine, a piano solo by Kelsey Zins and painting by Laura Williams.

2012 Miss Fulda, Madeline Westra, said farewell to her reign of Miss Fulda and tearfully expressed thanks to the residents of Fulda for making it the great city that it is.

While Westra made her farewell speech, the judges tabulated their score sheets.

Judging this year’s Miss Fulda Pageant was Todd Lee, Fulda, MN, and Stacy Smith, Jennifer Smith, Sue Johnson, and Ben Ahlquist, all of Worthington, MN.

This year’s Miss Fulda was crowned by Westra.

Williams’ royal court includes Little Miss Fulda Isabel Runkle, daughter of Scott and Becky Runkle, (she was escorted by Maddie Kaufman); Little Miss Princess Gracie Warborg, daughter of Travis and Stacy Warborg, (escorted by Shaylee McNab); and Fulda Princesses Kelsey Heppler and Micaela Paulzine.

Miss Fulda receives a $500.00 scholarship while the two princesses each receive $250 scholarships. They will participate in a variety of area city celebrations to represent the City of Fulda.

Sponsors of this year’s Miss Fulda Pageant were the Fulda Community Club, First National Bank-Fulda, Maynards, Ramerth Hardware, Studio Z, Fulda Area Credit Union, Mane Attraction, Shear Reflections (formerly Neat Top Beauty Salon), Fulda Free Press, re-Jenerate, Fulda Chiropractic Clinic, Vitality Fitness, Antonio’s, and Thirty One (Jasmine Lund).
