In observation of June Dairy Month, Fulda dairy farmer, Daniel Beerman, Iona, MN was recently invited to talk to small children at Kids R It Daycare in Worthington, MN, about his cow milking operation.

On Wednesday of last week Beerman shared with the children (ages 2, 3, and 4 years of age) about the number of cows in his dairy herd, where the cows live, about the barn that the cows are milked in, what the cows are fed to create good milk production, about the milk that is produced and how it is trucked away from the farm and where it goes. He also talked about the common food products that children typically eat that are produced from cows’ milk - such as milk butter, cheese and ice cream.

The children also wanted to know about the baby calves at the Beerman Farm.

As Beerman talked, the children were able to touch and smell the hay and grain samples that he had brought along for the lesson.

During the month of June, the children had several lessons about June Diary Month and the animals and foods that are produced by dairy farmers.
