Thursday, July 25, 1963

While sawing meat at his Red Owl Store Monday afternoon, Cliff Mansmith had the misfortune of catching his hand in the saw, severing his index and middle finger. He was rushed to the Worthington hospital and the fingers were sewn back on, the outcome of which is not known at this time.

Greg Arens, 45, died at Moorhead on Saturday night. Mr. Arens has had a heart ailment for several years.

A mean July thunderstorm accompanied by high winds, a downpour of rain and hail did much damage north and west of Fulda on Thursday afternoon. The storm include hail in some areas measuring two and a half inches in diameter destroying all crops in its path.

A car, truck and farm tractor were damaged extensively on Highway 59 about 8 a.m. Monday morning near the John Deere Implement company when a car driven by Harrison P. Chapman, 75, was struck by a truck driving by Gary Eldhamma, 18. The flatbed truck, loaded with gravel, swerved over a boulevard after the collision and hit a tractor owned by the John Deere Implement Company. No injuries were reported.

Mrs. Martha Beckman, 74, passed away in Worthington on July 16 after an illness of several months.

Mr. and Mrs. Herbert G. Baumgard are the parents of a son born at the Worthington Hospital on July 19th. Grandparents include Mr. and Mrs. Joe Weinzetl and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Baumgard.

Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Kass are the parents of a daughter born Sunday in Windom.

Dundee Nothing Days to be held this weekend with a hog roast kicking of the festivities.

Northwestern Bell Telephone Company is in the process of burying telephone lines in Fulda in an attempt to update the entire system.

Maple Lawn Nursing Home is presently planning some fundraisers to raise money for an air conditioning system.

The Fulda Jaycee Women were recognized as the outstanding chapter in the nation for their involvement in the United States Jayceette Community Development Program.

The residence of Tom LeTourneau was broken into over the weekend of July 16th. Taken was a Sony Cassette Recorder valued at $95 and a Canon AE1 Camera with attachments valued at $600.

Brenda Horkey and Joseph Clausen were united in marriage on July 9th at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Westbrook.

Tammy Pfluger and Jim Neyens announce their engagement. A June 23 wedding date in Fulda has been set.

Norma Beerman and Robert Dittman announce their approaching marriage. A September 3 wedding date has been set.

Construction on Casey's General Store at Third Street and U.S. 59 began early this summer and moved right along despite the rainy weather. Work is on schedule to be completed in September.

The Fulda Boy Scouts returned from a week of camp last Saturday at Lewis & Clark Scout Camp near Yankton, S.D.

A fire at the bulk tanks belonging to Kramer Oil in Iona caused black smoke, which could be seen for miles on Wednesday. Ron Kramer stated the fire caused the loss of his bulk truck and considerable damage to the tanks.

Lawmakers are seeking help for loss of crops and decrease in cash flow in the rain-soaked region.

Puppeteer Mike Norton and puppet Peg Leg Pete spent time entertaining the children of Fulda this week.

Melinda Lam and Mark Gerdes were united in marriage on April 3rd at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Whitehall, Michigan.

Bernice Sturm to celebrate her 80th birthday on Sunday with an open house.

Max Lucht passed away at the age of 62 years old.

Duane Chepa passed away on July 24th at the age of 68 years old.

Jeanette Barents passed away at the age of 70 years old on July 22nd.

Bertha Meyer passed away on July 16th after a brief illness at the age of 83 years old.
