Olsem twins earn American FFA Degree in Louisville

Each year, the National FFA Organization honors FFA members who show the utmost dedication to the organization through their desire to develop their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. The American FFA Degree is awarded to FFA members who have demonstrated the highest level of commitment to FFA.

Erica Olsem and Sara Olsem, daughters of Tom and Kathy Olsem and members of the Fulda FFA Chapter, were awarded the American FFA Degree at the 2013 National FFA Convention & Expo Oct. 30-Nov. 2 in Louisville, KY.

To be eligible, FFA members must have earned and productively invested $7,500 through a supervised agricultural experience program in which they start, own or hold a professional position in an existing agriculture enterprise. Recipients must also complete 50 hours community service and demonstrate outstanding leadership abilities and civic involvement.

Erica’s three year Supervised Agricultural Experience was in the areas of Home and Community Improvement, Farm and Agribusiness Placement. The majority of Erica’s earnings came from her internship in Quality Assurance with New Vision Cooperative in Worthington. Sara’s three year Supervised Agricultural Experience was also in the areas of Home and Community Improvement, Farm and Agribusiness Placement. The majority of Sara’s earnings came from her employment with Eagle Ag in Windom where she served as an Administrative Assistant. Erica and Sara, are 2012 FHS graduates, and are currently students at Bemidji State University majoring in Business Administration and Management.

The 2013 American FFA Degree was bestowed upon 3,578 recipients in Freedom Hall in Louisville, KY on November 2nd, in recognition of their years of academic and professional excellence. Each American FFA Degree recipient received a gold American FFA Degree key and a certificate. Erica and Sara join only twenty-two former members of the Fulda FFA Chapter who have obtained this degree since 1940.

Justin Paulzine, Erica Olsem, Cody Frodermann, Katelyn Renneke, Jocelyn Schreier, Evan Williams, Taylor Schettler, Christine Salentiny, Thomas Salentiny, Syd Cuperus, Laura Williams, Suzanne Pagel, Cole Dierks, Mallory Pagel, Kody Magnussen, and Sara Olsem. Members of the Fulda FFA Chapter traveled to Louisville, Kentucky last week and joined 62,998 other students, advisors and guests to attend the 2013 National FFA Convention & Expo. The record-setting attendance convention that started on October 30th and adjourned November 2nd was held at the Kentucky Exposition Center. Members of the Fulda High School delegation were joined by Advisors Mr. Pagel and Miss Konradi.
