In Memory of Johanna Haken

1914-JOHANNA HAKEN-2014
Johanna Haken was born on November 29,1914 on a farm in Rock County, Minnesota to John and Sadie Hoogland Bierma. She grew up on the family farm and attended county school. On November 22, 1938 she and Menno Haken were married in Rushmore, MN. Following their marriage they farmed in Little Rock Township, Nobles County until 1960 when they retired. They remained on the farm until 1966, when they moved to Slayton, MN. Menno passed away in 1983. Johanna continued to live in Slayton. In 2008 Johanna became a resident of the Golden Living Center-Slayton and passed away there on Friday, November 15, 2013 at the age of 98. Johanna was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Slayton. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering and gardening.

Survivors include one sister, Jennie Bents of Sibley, IA, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Menno Haken, three brothers, James, John and William Bierma, infant sister and one sister, Alyce Bierma.

Funeral Services were held at First Presbyterian Church in Slayton, MN on Tuesday, November, 19, 2013 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Dave Hollis officiating. The organist was Nola Aanenson. The pallbearers were Cory Bierma, Jim Bierma, Dan Bierma, Henry Allen Bents, Carol Quaal, Ruth Bierma and Lori Bents. Interment at Sunset Rest Cemetery, Rushmore, MN.
