Jerry's Jottings

December 5, 2013

by Jerry Johnson
Our Thanksgiving day was spent flying to San Antonio, Texas for a basketball tournament. Our granddaughter plays for UNI. Alyssa is a six three post. The games were good, although not completely successful. The rest of the week was spent with seeing the sights like the Alamo, the River Walk, Mission Road, the Santa Run, and the Christmas Boat Parade on the river. So, it was a full vacation packed into a handful of days. I would rate San Antonio as a great destination and worthy of consideration. It has been about 49 years since I was last in San Antonio and things have changed. So back to today, we are still here on Monday and wearing shorts in the eighty degree weather. But not to worry, we will be back to share the coming minus ten weather with you folks in Fulda.

The Christmas season is upon us. Only 20 days to finish your holiday preparations.

The manager of a large office asked a new employee to come into his office. "What is your name?," was the first thing the manager asked. "John," the new guy replied. The manager scowled. "Look, I don't know what kind of a namby-pamby place you worked at before, but I don't call anyone by their first name! It breeds familiarity and that leads to a breakdown in authority," he said. "I refer to my employees by their last name only - Smith, Jones, Baker - that's all. Now that we got that straight, what is your last name?" The new guy sighed and said, "Darling. My name is John Darling." The manager said, "Okay, John, the next thing I want to tell you..."
