Fulda City Council starts new year-Appointments for

department heads made

The Fulda City Council met Monday January 6. Ron Kellen expressed some concerns with the council of their hiding from the public the hiring process of the city clerk. The set procedures for questions should not be done at private closed meetings. Acting clerk, Cathy Magnus, said that when the applicants agree to an interview then it should be opened to the public. Jim Troje agreed with Kellen.

Chuck Lursen read his letter commending the city work force for their work during last year’s ice storm and their help during the the rebuilding of the water treatment plant.

In new business the 2014 annual designations were made. The official depositories are the First National Bank and the Fulda Area Credit Union, official newspaper is the Fulda Free Press, and the city attorney Larry Lucht Law office. The city auditor is Steve Haugen of Gerber and Haugen, P.L.L.P. City assessor's are Erick Skgquist & Robert Pazdernick.

The 2014 Fulda Memorial Library Board is Sandra Ryan, Kristy Milbrath, Dorothy Gilertson, Dean McNeal and Kristin Spittle.

Council department assignments for 2014 are as follows:

Mayor Greg Ommen will oversee Public Relations, budget, personnel. News/ Media, Public Safety Commission, Police Department EDA board, Civil Defense;

Brian Gass was assigned to oversee the Fulda Ambulance, Library Board, Sanitation (solid waste), Nuisance Inspector, Cable Tv, and Acting Mayor;

Chuck Lursen will oversee Streets/Alleys, Curb & Gutter, Water & Sewer (lagoon), Wellhead Protection, Grants, Heritage Society and Natural Gas board

Jim Troje was assigned to oversee Sidewalks, Weed Inspector, Community Club, EDA Board and the Fulda Fire Departmen;

Chad Ouellette will oversee Parks/ Recreation, Community Ed, Natural Gas board and Building/Zoning Permits.

In other business the council approved paying the Fulda Heritage Society six hundred dollars for heating fuel for the Fulda Depot.

A contract was approved with Gerber and Haugen for $8,900.00.
