“It’s new, fun, interesting and exciting,” David Hartzler described of his new business venture. The Brewster resident has purchased Ben Lee’s Cafe in Worthington, and is looking forward to the future. “Nothing is going to be taken away” from the current offerings at the Cafe, “We’ll just add to it,” Dave explained.

There are no plans for any major changes at Ben Lee’s, but Dave is looking at the option of opening a little earlier, or possibly being open Tuesday evenings. “This end of Main Street stays open on Tuesday nights, with the Farmer’s Market in the summer, so we may try that,” Dave indicated.

Former owner Debbie Petersen began the business in downtown Worthington about five years ago. Building the business over the past years, she was looking for a way to slow down a bit, and Dave was looking for a new option. “I think it was meant to be,” Dave said of purchasing Ben Lee’s. “Debbie is still here, helping me.”

The baking and cooking are “Debbie’s areas of expertise,” Dave indicated, and she will continue to do just that. Dave will be taking over the management duties, scheduling and planning for the future as he learns from Debbie and the employees at Ben Lee’s. All the employees are remaining on staff, and aiding Dave as he begins the new venture.

Soups, sandwiches and salads are available at Ben Lee’s. Tomato basil soup and one other soup are generally available every day. Ciabatti bread is used for some of the sandwiches. A variety of coffees, hot chocolates, smoothies and Chai teas are offered. Pastries, bars, and muffins are on the menu, which is constantly changing as Ben Lee’s will offer something new on different days. Brunch is available on the weekend.

“The crew is training me in, which is fantastic,” Dave added. “There are a lot of great people working here.” Dave indicated additional help and talent is always needed, for those interested, explaining catering events require several employees.
