gorgeous day outside at the Worthington Country Club on Wednesday
On what turned out to be a gorgeous day outside at the Worthington Country Club on Wednesday, the Fulda golf team took to the course for sub-sections and 2 members of the team advanced to next week’s section meet in Marshall. Justin Dierks advanced with a round of 95, shooting a 47 on the front nine, and 48 on the back nine to place him 8th out of 9 individuals who advance on. Justin shot a very nice round on the front 9 before running into a little bit of trouble on the last hole of the first round but still came in with a very nice 47 sitting in a good spot going to the back nine looking to secure a spot at sections. The back nine did not start out well for Justin as he started the round with 2 triple bogeys and double bogey in the first 4 holes to start the round. To Justin’s credit he bounced back and played the last 5 holes 3 over including pars on 2 of the last 3 holes to secure one of the 9 individual spots. Senior and older brother Cole secured the 9th and final spot. Playing in the last group of the day, Cole knew he had to bear down and gut it out the last couple holes, and he came up with some huge shots the last 2 holes to grab that last individual spot. Cole parred the 17th hole and bogeyed the last hole to come into the clubhouse shooting a 96 edging out a group of 3 golfers who had 98’s on the day.

Both Cole and Justin will now move on to Marshall where they will meet up with the North half of the section and try to secure one of the 5 individual spots for the state tournament.

The remaining golfers also competed well on the day with senior Joey Voss being one of those golfers who shot a 98 and just missed moving on in the sections. Joey shot a 51-47 on the day to end his varsity golfing career. Congrats Joey on a fine season of golf. Aron Hulstein made great improvements from the last couple weeks and shot a very respectable 106 for the round including a 49 on the back 9. Brandon Everett and Jason Van Dyke both ended their day shooting a 109 for the rounds.
