Melissa Gehl, daughter of Mark and Peggy Gehl, Fulda, MN was crowned Miss Fulda on Tuesday evening during the Miss Fulda Pageant that was held at Fulda High School gymnasium. Gehl graduated from Fulda High School at the end of May.

Five contestants participated in this year’s Miss Fulda Pageant. They were Andrea Fuerstenberg, daughter of Gary and Karen Fuerstenberg, Melissa Gehl, Danielle Hermeling, daughter of Tim and Laurie Hermeling, Myah Holinka, daughter of Brad and Karmel Holinka, and Allison VandenBosch, daughter of Tony and Sara VandenBosch.

The contestants were each escorted by their mentor. The contestants wrote a short speech as to why they had chosen that particular person as their mentor. Each contestant chose their mother to be their mentor.

Contestants were judged on a personal interview, poise, a table display depicting their life, their answer about what one item on their table meant the most to them and why, and an outfit expression, as well as their answer to the question: “Name one positive and one negative aspect of social media and choose one to elaborate on.”

2013 Miss Fulda, Laura Williams, said farewell to her reign of Miss Fulda and tearfully expressed thanks to the residents of Fulda for providing her so many wonderful opportunities.

While Williams made her farewell speech, the judges tabulated their score sheets.

Judging this year’s Miss Fulda Pageant was Chris Cryder, Fulda, MN, Sarah Warner, Lucan, MN, Lisa Diekmann, Lismore, MN, and Tammy Buesing, Slayton, MN.

This year’s Miss Fulda was crowned by Williams.

Gehl’s royal court includes Little Miss Fulda Giselle Meza, daughter of Petra Jimenez de Cornejo (she was escorted by Maria Jimenez); Little Miss Princess Lindsey Wiener, daughter of Jeff and Tami Wiener (escorted by Jeff Wiener); and Fulda Princesses Danielle Hermeling and Myah Holinka.

Miss Fulda receives a $500.00 scholarship while the two princesses each receive $250 scholarships. Sponsors of this year’s Miss Fulda Pageant were the Fulda Community Club, First National Bank, Studio Z, Fulda Area Credit Union, Mane Attraction, Sheer Reflections, Antonios, Thirty One (Jasmine Lund), and Mary Kay (Tiffany Sanow).

This year’s Miss Fulda Pageant was dedicated to Bob Barnes who recently passed away. He was a huge supporter of the program and drove the queen and her attendants through many, many parades. His family donated money in his memory to the Miss Fulda Program.
