A benefit for Gary Haper will be held at Adrian Grove Park on Sunday, July 13th from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Gary was diagnosed with an astrocytoma brain tumor July 23, 2013. He underwent surgery that removed most of the brain tumor. Gary then had radiation and chemo treatments in August 2013. The chemo treatments lasted for 6 months and the radiation treatments for 30 days. Gary then got a short break for 3 weeks and then was put on a higher dosage of chemo pills. Gary started showing symptoms again this past May and is back on chemo to try to shrink the tumor back down.

Gary and his sister Diane managed the Adrian Mini Mart, owned by their parents until it was closed and sold in 2008. Gary and his wife Deb (Crowley) lived in Adrian for fourteen years before moving to the Crowley family farm outside of Fulda. Gary has worked for HyVee in Worthington for 6 1/2 years while Deb has been with AgStar Crop Insurance in Worthington for 20 years. Their daughter Anna (16) is going to be a Junior at Adrian High School and daughter Elizabeth (6) will be entering 1st grade in Worthington this fall.

The benefit for Gary and his family will feature a meal of sloppy joes, hot dogs, cole slaw, beans, cookies and bars and water or a soft drink. The food was donated for the benefit by HyVee. The Nobles County Chapter of Thrivent Financial has also stepped in as a sponsor for the benefit.

There will also be a silent auction with several gift cards and meat bundles and packages available. Also on the auction are passes to Wild Water West, Canary tickets, night stays at motels, refrigerator/freezer, microwave and several hand made blankets and quilts to name just a few. Gary’s sister Diane Haper, who has been one of many family members putting together this benefit comments “we have had such tremendous support from family and friends throughout the planning of this benefit. It is really great for Gary and his family.”

Come out to Adrian Grove Park on Sunday, July 13th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and have some good food, get in on the bidding and show your support for the Haper family.
