Eleanor Louise Engebretson was born on September 4, 1916 in Slayton, Minnesota to Ole and Christine Ellingson Viste.  She grew up in Slayton and graduated from Slayton High School in 1934. On December 15, 1940 she and Glenn Engebretson were married in Slayton.  Following their marriage they made their home in Pipestone for one year before returning to Slayton and raising their five children.  Glenn passed away on January 7, 1993.  Eleanor remained in their home until 2001 when she moved to Sunrise Terrace in Slayton.  In February 2016 she moved to Mapleview Estates in Fulda.  In June 2016 she became a resident of the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda where she passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at the age of 99.  She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, belonged to WELCA and taught Sunday School for many years.  Eleanor enjoyed knitting, sewing, reading, cooking, playing cards, word puzzles, and spending time with her family and friends.  She also enjoyed growing orchids.

Survivors include five children and their spouses: Phillip (Doug) and Delores Engebretson of St. Peter, MN; Judy and Harry Follmuth of Hayfield, MN; Mary and Keven Newton of Rochester, MN; David and Marlys Engebretson of Sioux Falls, SD; and Janet and Burend Cuperus of Iona, MN; 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, infant daughter, great-grandson, Luke Newton, and two brothers, Lavane and his wife, Alpha Viste, and Kermit Viste.

Funeral Services were held at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Ted Kunze officiating.  The organis was Brenda Whitehead with special music by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Harry Follmuth.  The pallbearers were Matthew Follmuth, Jeremy Newton, Jonathan Newton, Jason Wajer, Erich Berger, Samantha Engebretson, Laura Engebretson and John Thoe.  Interment is at Slayton City Cemetery in Slayton, MN.
