April 14, 1960

Mrs. John F. Wittern passed away March 14th quietly in her sleep.

Dave Pucket passed away March 22nd. Mr. Pucket was a former operator of the Dry Cleaning business in Fulda for 10 years.

Mrs. Mary Woehl rites held at Bagley on Tuesday. Mrs. Woehle’s death occurred April 8th after having been confined for 5 ½ years.

David Drealan represented Murray County in the Minneapolis Tribune Spelling Contest on Saturday.

Honor students announced at the Fulda High School; Margaret Popp – Salutatorian and Barbara Gunderman – Valedictorian.

Several cases of hot cholera have been reported in Murray County. Once the disease is found on the farm the only sure prevention is to vaccinate all pigs over six weeks of age.

Reker’s Clover Farm store was broken into on Monday through a west side window. Thieves crawled in the building taking money from the register. Indications show the break-in was made by youths.

Large groups attend open houses at the Clinic to meet Dr. Sukkar and at Probst Jewelry this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Harris Swan are the parents of a son. Michael, born April 6th.

Staff Sgt. And Mrs. Dean Lucht are the parent of a baby girl born April 1st. Grandparents include Mr. and Mrs. A. Lucht and Mr. and Mrs. F. Harris.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Holinka are the parents of a daughter, Valerie Jo, born April 12th.

Fulda student, Jamie Maertens, has been notified that she has been accepted to the Minnesota Center for Arts Education in Golden Valley to study music.

Fulda Fire Department had just finished up with fire school in Avoca concentrating on grass fires when they received a call to respond to a fire at the John Uittenbogaard farm southwest of Fulda.

Women of Today hold an Easter Egg Hunt in the Fulda City Park on Sunday Afternoon to the delight of all the young hunters.

A rearing pond for Walleyes has been created on the Marv Mischke property by members of the Fulda Area Lakes Preservation Corporation. By the end of summer the Walleye stock will be released into the Fulda Lake system.

The Fulda Raider Speech team took first place in the District 8 Speech Tournament for the 15th straight year.

Fulda’s Knowledge Building Team finished in 3rd place at the Regional meet to earn their way to the State Tournament. Members of the team coached by Hank Lenards are Sara Faltinson, Roger Koopman, Dallas Bergh, Tim Larson and Aaron Van Oort.

Fulda FFA member Joe Reith took top honors with a score of 77 in the Round Lake Dairy Products Invitational. Joe and his teammates; Aaron Van Oort, Eric Riess, Ryan Baumgard and Jeremy Abell are looking forward to Region competition.

The engagement of Karmel Honius and Bradley Holinka is announced. The couple plans a June wedding.

Deann Heinrichs and Cullen Ober announce their engagement. A June wedding is planned.

Loren and Gretchen Koehn announce the birth of their daughter, Samantha, born, March 8th. Grandparents are Tom and Kay Meyer and Lillian Koehn.

Margaret Goedtke passed away  April 8, 1990 at the age of 88 years old.

Heavy wet snow blankets the area as Fulda Residents measure up to 10 inches and the Worthington area sees 14 inches. Schools were closed as the winds drifted across the country roads. Although most would have preferred to continue with the nice weather, the snow (moisture) is a blessing. And with luck there will be more to follow.

“I Remember Mama” to be performed this weekend by the Fulda Area Community Players.

Advance to State Speech competition from Fulda High are Liza Knorr, Kelli Isder, Heidi  Uttech, Robyn Winter, Jackie Engen, LizAnne Meier, and Angie Langford.

Fulda Women of Today to hold Fulda Tour of Homes with proceeds going to aid Kids with Diabetes.

Featured in Fulda High School Senior Profiles this week are Tyson Elder, Rebecca Kaufman, Megan Lubben, and Scott Ossefoort.

Awards given to Carl Hennager and Larry Koster for 45 combined years to the DNR. Hennager received the Minnesota Length of Service award and Koster received the Department of Natural Resources Length of Service award.

Competing in the Northland Youth Wrestling Association tournament in Rochester were Cody Knolt, 5th place, Luke Giese, 6th place, and Nick Henning, 4th place.

Kelli Gieselman and LeRay Wesseling are proud to announce the birth of their son, Lake, born February 10th.  Grandparents are Eli and sue Waldner and Pete and Carol Wesseling.

Harvey Wahl passed away on April 2nd at the age of 83 years old.

Ann Krause passed away on Wednesday, April 5th at the age of 85 years old.
