The Village of Fulda has decided to sponsor a course in swimming lessons for the youngsters of the area beginning June 20th. The lessons will be given at the local beach by Gary Wordelman along with life guard Mike Fisher. The appearance of the beach of Fulda’s lake has been greatly improved making it a pleasant place.

Sp. 5 Lincoln Sauter and Mrs. Sauter and their five children spent the weekend visiting his father Henry Sauter in Fulda. The Sauter family has just returned from a three year tour of duty in France. Sp. 5 Sauter is scheduled for training in Fort Bliss, Texas after which he will be assigned to Fort Lewis Washington.

The local Boy Scout Troop 123 has been re-activated in Fulda. Mr. Vern Jackels and Mr. Rex Wordelman are the new scout masters. The Scouts are making plans for a Paper Pick Up on June 25th.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sauer, Jr. are the parents of a son born May 27th at the Slayton hospital.

Pheasant season opens October 29th and Deer season is set to open on November 12th.

The Fulda Giants defeat Worthington Cubs 7-4 and the Luverne Cardinals 11-2 this week.

Long time school bus driver, Rupp Hofmann, makes his last run on Wednesday. Mr. Hofmann started his bus driving career with four buses over thirty years ago. Back then, the buses held 35-48 passengers and didn’t have CB’s to rely on.

Mae Beth Lindstrom will be setting up her chiropractic office up in the spare office of Dr. George Brockway, DDS.  Linstrom, who is certified in the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Missouri, will open her practice the week of June 11th.

The City of Fulda received a grant of $677,000 from the Department of Agriculture to be used to improve the city’s water system including replacing the existing storage tank and outdated treatment facility.

Fulda High School 1990 Graduation took place on June 1st with senior speakers Dallas Bergh and Todd Kirchner.

Fulda FFA students are raising Pheasants to later be released. The project is funded in part by the Fulda Fish and Game Club.

Trish Kremer received the Women of Today Spiritual Development Award and Kris Fischer the Bronze Key and Presidential Medallion from Minnesota State President Mary Malberg.

Chad Carroll qualified for the Minnesota State Track Meet in the 800 meter run for the second year in a row. 

Dixie Yeager and Bruce Wieskus announce their engagement. A July 21st wedding is planned in Sioux Falls, SD.

Ray and Linda Smith are the parents of a son, Jason, born May 8th. Grandparents are Allen and Bonnie Smith and Alvin and Arlene Heintz. 

Viola Fitzpatrick Schroeder is honored as Resident of the Month at Maple Lawn Nursing Home.

The theme for the 1990 Fulda Wood Duck Festival is “A Star With A Future” celebrating Fulda becoming a Star City. The Festival dates are July 13, 14, and 15.

Charlie Hopkins resigned as the Economic Coordinator for the City of Fulda at Monday nights city council meeting.

Kevin Busch, Dale Ommen, Bob Klein and Randy Busch attended the Indy 500 this past weekend. According to Kevin Busch, Fulda, the size of the track was very impressive measuring 2 1/2 miles long with an infield covering 230 acres.

This year’s big event in Fulda will take place June 16, 17, and 18th when the Fulda Wood Duck Festival Salutes the Peanuts Gang.

The Fulda High School Horticulture Class paired up with the 2000 Fulda ReLeaf Program in planting 61 trees around town in an effort to spruce up the neighborhood. Fourteen students along with their instructor, Mr. Pagel, and members of the c ity crew were involved in the eight day pruning and planting projects. Technical advice was given by Jim Nelson of Nelson Landscaping.

Dennis Brown, grandson of Whoopee John, will proudly have his grandfather’s music available for sale during the flee market during Wood Duck Festival. Whoopee John was born John Anthony Wilfahrt Jr. and received his first according at the age of 11 from his mother for Christmas. Whoopee John immediately started playing the song his mother was humming. That tune in later years became known as the “Mariechen Waltz”, Whoopee John’s theme song.

Gary McBreen passed away June 1, 2000 at the age of 57 years old.

Mabel Dirks passed away on June 1st at the age of 78 years old.

Kathryn Eich passed away at the age of 86 years old.

Budd Stanton passed away on May 26th at the age of 72 years old.

Patricia and Jim Arnt are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Autumn born May 25th, 2000. Grandparents include Joe and Henritta Gavin and Don and Clarine Uttech.

Steve and Andrea Hogie are happy to announce the arrival of their daughter, Brittney, born June 1st. Grandparents include Maurice and Caroline Odenbrett and Eldon and Karen Hogie.

Kris Magnussen cleared the bar at 12’6” to claim first place and advance to the State Track meet in the pole vault. 

Jenna Wendorff won first place in the shot put with a heave of 38’2” and advances to the State meet this Friday and Saturday.
