Morgan Gehl wins Worthington Turkey Trot Rebels finish close second among 12 teams in varsity girls standings

With sophomore Morgan Gehl winning her fourth consecutive cross country race of the 2018 season, the Murray County Central / Fulda varsity girls came close to winning the 12-team Worthington “Turkey Trot” Invitational high school cross country meet last Thursday, September 13.

Running a 5,000-meter course at the former Prairie View Golf Links, Gehl covered the 3.1 miles in an amazing time of 18:42.10, entering the chute 101 seconds before a Fairmont runner (freshman Laura Thompson) finished in 20:23.1.

Gehl is currently ranked fourth in state among all Class A girls and will run on the home course next Tuesday (September 25) in the annual Rebel Invitational.

Justin Clarke leads 15 Rebel boys with sixth-place finish at the Worthington Turkey Trot

Paced by an up-front sixth-place finish by junior Justin Clarke, a total of 15 Rebel boys competed in the combined varsity-junior varsity raee of the 12-team Worthington “Turkey Trot” Invitational high school cross country meet last Thursday (September 13) at the course known as Prairie View.

In a huge field of 156 finishing runners, Clarke continued his early-season success by placing sixth with a stellar 5,000-meter time of 17:32.5, leading Murray County Central / Fulda to a strong fourth-place team finish with 115 points (6-22-25-28-34), just 14 points behind third-place Fairmont’s total of 101 and four points better than Mountain Lake’s fifth-place score of 119 (2-9-30-36-42).

Bakke wins girls JV race at Tracy CC Meet

Eighth-grader Megan Bakke utilized a strong finishing kick to win the girls’ junior varsity 4,000-meter cross country race at the Tracy Golf Course on September 6.

Bakke covered the 2.5 mile distance in 19:17.9, entering the chute just ahead of Pipestone’s Pape Kelly (19:18.2), but more than a minute before Wabasso’s Sarah Franta (20:24.2) finished third.

Freshman Chelby Kesteloot placed 19th among 43 finishers with her time of 22:48.1.

Running the same 4,000-meter course, six Rebel boys competed favorably, paced by Isaiah Kathman’s ninth-place time of 17:14.1. Cale Engelkes (10th, 17:21.7) was next, followed by Tyler Aanensen (29th, 18:44.3), Dante Damm (36, 19:11.0), Ryan Risacher (56, 20:46.0) and Logan Clarke (66, 24:03.0).
