In memory of Dorothy Homan

1929-DOROTHY HOMAN-2020

Dorothy Ann Homan was born on August 27, 1929 in Le Mars, Iowa to Nick and Mary Henrich Wanderscheid. As a young girl Dorothy went to live with relatives in Iona, MN.  Dorothy graduated from St. Columba High School in Iona.  Following high school Dorothy returned to Le Mars and worked for Sacred Heart Hospital.  On February 7, 1955 she and Everett Homan were married at St. Joseph Church in Le Mars.  Following their marriage they farmed the Homan family farm southwest of Slayton and raised their three sons.  Everett passed away on September 12, 1997.  Dorothy then moved to Westside Apartments in Slayton.   She then became a resident of the Golden Living Center in Slayton and later moved to Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, MN.  Dorothy passed away there on February 1, 2020, at the age of 90.  She was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Slayton.  She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

Survivors include two sons, Mark Homan of Kansas City, MO and Kevin Homan and his wife, Julie of North Mankato, MN, daughter-in-law, Mary Homan of Slayton, MN, five grandchildren, Sara and Cal Wiebelhaus, John and Michelle Homan, Hilary and Bob Leuer, Patrick Homan and Betheny Jensen, and Kellie and Jon Leuer, 12 great grandchildren, Hudson, Kolten, Aisley, Brooks, and baby Wiebelhaus in June, Eli, Cayden and Kennedy Homan, Clare and Freddy Leuer, Cole Jensen, and Jeremiah Leuer, and two step-brothers, Steve and Deb Wanderscheid of Sheldon, IA, and Paul Wanderscheid of De Moines, IA.  She is preceded in death by her parents, son, Gary Homan, grandson, Kyle Homan, three sisters and their husbands, Betty and Floyd Arens, Lois and Jerry Peters, and Jean and Dick Cherkas.

Funeral Services were held at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton on Monday, February 3, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Thien Nguyen officiating.  The organist was Sharon Lais.  The song leader was Sheila Crowley.  The pallbearers were Kevin Homan, Sara Wiebelhaus, John Homan, Hilary Leuer, Patrick Homan, Kellie Leuer.    Interment at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Slayton, MN.
