Linda Jacobson to retire from Fulda Area Credit Union

What began during a difficult time in agriculture has resulted in a successful credit union that serves more than 10,000 members and employs more than 50 people. At the helm of the Fulda Area Credit Union during the past 33 years has been President Linda Jacobson.

Jacobson is a 1973 graduate of Fulda High School. She was working at a bank in Slayton when she made the change to become an employee at Fulda Area Credit Union.

Fulda Area Credit Union was started during the farm crisis of the 1980’s, following the closure of Citizens State Bank in February of 1985.

Ted Winter and Larry Green  enlisted the help of Commissioner Mike Hatch and Rochelle Bergen of the Minnesota Department of Commerce to aid in bringing a credit union to southwest Minnesota.  Two town meetings regarding the opening of a local credit meeting were held, one on June 11th and the other on July 2nd. Petitions were signed to encourage the opening of the credit union.

Encouragement was received from the Minnesota Credit Union Association who was instrumental in helping with getting the Fulda Area Credit Union Charter in place and signed. “There was a time there where it looked like we were not going to get a signed Charter, but it did happen just before we were going to open the doors,” Jacobson shared.
