Pie and Pops! What a delightful combination to invite the public for an evening of sweet pie and “Movies and Magnificent Musical Musings” as provided by the Fulda High School senior band, junior band and Fulda Elementary School band members. The concert was held on Tuesday, May 7th, under the direction of Matt Saxman.

Held in the gymnasium of Fulda High School, pie was served by the band members beginning at 7 p.m. A large variety of confections were available for the choosing.

Opening the concert at 7:30 p.m. was the Fulda Elementary Band as they performed “Liturgical Fanfare” and “Reveille Rock” which featured the trumpet section of the band.

“Latin Nights”, “Cellular Symphony”, Escape (The Pina Colada Song)”, and “The Green Rushes of Runnymede” were the songs played by the Junior High Band. “Latin Nights” featured the 7th grade band members and the percussion section.

Hailey Guinn, who was Fulda’s the top scoring soloist at the Solos and Ensembles Contest, played a minuet from 1745.

Her performance was followed by the Senior High Band who played “Theme from “Jurassic Park”, and “Largo” from the New World Symphony of 1893. “Largo” featured Morgan Gehl in a soprano saxophone solo.

Carlos Meza was the featured soloist, accompanied by the entire band, as they performed “The Scientist”, as recorded by Coldplay in 2002.

All senior band members were recognized by the audience with the seniors being McKenzie Evers, Emma Wehking, Sam Cheadle, Cory Renneke, and Jazmine Vega.

Mr. Saxman announced that the band membership had voted on the senior members who would receive the John Phillip Sousa award and the Fulda High School Directors Award.
