Thursday, Feb. 11, 1960

The Fulda Fire Department was called to the McIntire and Miller residence Friday at about noon where a fire had started in a bedroom believed to have been ignited by faulty wiring. The fire was extinguished in short order.

Red Owl Store celebrating their Fifth Anniversary this weekend.

Fulda 20¢ Wash will be open for business soon. There will be sixteen washers and five dryers.

A son was born on Sunday, January 31st to Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Haroldson.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schweigert are the parents of a son born February 4th.

Mr. and Mrs. John Miller are the parents of a daughter, Gail, born January 29th.

Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Jans are the parents of a son Keith, born February 8th.

Marlys Bruns and Dick Johnson announce their engagement. A July wedding is planned.

Geo. Lober, Sr. rites held on Saturday. Mr. Lober, 90, passed away at his home Tuesday evening.

Thomas E. Ferris passed away at the age of 80 years old after a short illness on February 5th.

Lester Adkins passed away on February 3rd after suffering a stroke at the age of 61 years old.

Funeral services were held for John O’Connell, 85, in Minneapolis with a grave-side service at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery here in Fulda.

Nine BPA members advance to state conference to be held in March. They include Becky Champan, Bobbi Jo Swenson, Robin Olesen, Rosanne Duerr, Stacie Dierks, Sheli Paplow, Patty Kirchner, Mary Klein, and Shari Gleis.

Charlie and Lucille Gerber share the laughter and good times that have kept them together for over a half century.

The Fulda City Council voted to take action on the Energy Audit Survey results and will hold a public meeting on February 20th.

Citizens of Tomorrow include Dana and Sara Schipper; Chris, Steven and Melissa Hawkinson, and Laura, Hilary and Adrienne Meier.

Featured in Fulda High School Senior Profiles are Debra Beckmann, Jason Larsen and Jason Renneke.

Mr. and Mrs. Otto Evers will observe their 65th wedding anniversary with a card shower.

Heidi Keil and Matthew Schultz were united in marriage on December 30th at St. Olaf’s Catholic Church in Eau Claire, WI.

Mabel Bodelson Olson honored as Resident of the Month at Maple Lawn Nursing Home.

Margaret Fitzgerald passed away on February 2nd at the age of 81 years old.

Mary Goettig passed away at the age of 69 years old on January 29th.

Adolf Franzen passed away Sunday at the age of 94 years old.

Ms. Kelm takes her sophomore Science class on a trip to Talcot on the Ecology Bus to discover a bit of nature and how to survive in it. “Just remember the word MAD – Move, Adapt, or Die. Those are your choices.”

Clayton Isder was sworn in to fill the city council seat vacated by Ken Clarke. Mr. Isder will hold the position for one year at which time it will be put on the ballot in the election.

Rep. Ted Winter recently invited all concerned citizens to attend a statewide rally to draw attention to the decline of rural communities. The rally is to be held at the St. Paul Cathedral on March 1st.

Interest rate up a quarter point to 5.75% according to First National Bank President Joe Grandgeorge.

Phil Elskamp was the feature speaker at the Fulda Heritage Society meeting on February 3rd where he shared his experience working with the railroad in Pipestone, Flandreau and Fulda. Phil recalled four to six trains a day passing through Fulda. The last passenger train running through Fulda was on August 17, 1963.
