State golf meet brings season to an end

The two-day state boys and girls golf tournaments concluded on Wednesday, June 13, with team champions and individual championships crowned. The Class A tournament was played at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker.

HL-O-Fulda Coyotes Cory Renneke and Payton Marquardt competed in the state tournament, earning that right by placing in the sectional tournament.

Both juniors from Fulda, Renneke and Marquardt finished with scores of 178 and 187, respectively. That placed Renneke in a tie for 51st in the state, and Marquardt tied for 69th.

Renneke shot a 96 on the first day of the tournament and finished day two with an 82. Marquardt had 95 on the first day, and came in with 94 for his day two score.

Sleepy Eye United senior Ben Laffen won the Class A individual championship, with a two-round score of 144. That edged Bethlehem Academy junior Khrystian Petersen, who had a 145.

Tyler Groves, a senior from Murray County Central, was the 12th place finisher, shooting 158.

Sleepy Eye United shared the Class A team championship crown with Mounds Park Academy. Both schools finished the tournament with totals of 641.

No Coyote girls qualified for the state tournament .
