County board votes to move forward with administrator versus coordinator

The Murray County Commissioners unanimously voted to move forward with the administrator model versus the coordinator at their regular meeting held March 5th. Christy Riley, communication, read a variety of questions and answers regarding the difference between the two positions. One of the biggest differences is an administrator will be able to streamline and enhance decision making processes. It is felt the board actually gains authority with an administrator due to having someone who is empowered to carry out their objectives. The biggest change with having an administrator is that a line of responsibility for the budget is established. An administrator is responsible for budget performance along with working pro actively with department heads. Commissioner Thiner stated, “It’s things like today where different purchases were approved, not knowing for sure if it is in the budget or not.
