Murray County Commissioners approve moving forward with engineering Valhalla dikes and access to Keeley Island

Auditor-treasurer, Heidi Winter, presented the idea of a possibly refunding a of liquor license due to the COVID 19 pandemic. In her proposal Winter created a cost per day and then multiplied that amount by the days the establishment has been shut down. Commissioner Thiner proposed tabling the idea stating businesses are getting small business loans and the county would be setting a precedent. The proposed refund tallied $772.04 with refunds ranging anywhere between $4.82 to $162.74.

On and off sale and Sunday liquor license renewals for Breezy Point Tavern, Painted Prairie, and Lake Shetek Lodge were approved by the county board contingent upon receipt of all paperwork received in the office of the auditor-treasurer. The license period will run from May 7, 2020 to May 6, 2021.

Travis Radke, ditch inspector, presented one petition for JD 03, Dovray Township. This was approved. Commissioner Thiner asked if Radke had been able to look at CD 6. Thiner stated he had received a call from Nobles County Commissioner Ahlers. Radke says he hadn’t had an opportunity but hoped to this past Tuesday. Commissioner also inquired about upcoming work regarding CD 20A and 6. He had spoken to county attorney Travis Smith regarding short term financing of which he stated he hadn’t found anything yet. Commissioner feels the short term financing would be a better way to go versus taking a 20 year bond out on the project. The money could be borrowed as the project progressed instead of taking the money out of the general fund. His feeling is down the road a year or two the bond rating might be better than it is right now. Winter chimed in stating she had checked on the bond rate and it sits currently at 3% which is cheaper than the one from a couple of years ago. She doesn’t feel short term funding would be advantageous when the bond rates are currently quite favorable. Commissioner Thiner made reference to the fact the county is already down $1.6 million on another ditch system. Of which, Winter stated she was under the impression the county would be looking at combining CD 20A and 6 with JD 3 so the county could save bond issue costs. Commissioner Thiner’s thoughts are to save these ideas for another day.
