John Buschena was honored recently with a breakfast for Golden Jubilee members at the Upper Midwest Electrical Industry Convention held at the St. Paul Hilton Hotel February 5-7. John is in his 54th year in the electrical business. He began in 1913 working for municipal electrical plant. In 1928 he began doing small jobs out of his home and in 1932 opened his shop.

On Saturday evening, Richard Tolzin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tolzin met death in a car accident which occurred about 10:25 p.m., two miles west of Slayton on Highway 30. Also killed in the accident were James and Duane Gleis, sons of Mr. and Mrs. John Gleise of Lake Wilson. Heavy fog attributed to the two car collision.

Monday, April 17, is the final date for filing your 1966 Federal Income Tax Returns.

Approximately 10:30 Saturday evening, lightening struck the home of Mrs. Anna Haar resulting in a fire in the attic. The bolt apparently hit the TV antenna, followed down the lead-in into the home and melted the wires for the TV. Several light fixtures were also completely removed from their positions, sheetrock was loosened, appliances were burnt, and all electrical wiring visible was burnt beyond use. The quick response by the Fire Department saved the house structure as well as Mrs. Haar who had retired for the night.

Mr. and Mrs. Delano Dorpinghause have a new baby boy, born April 3, 1967 named Dale Robert. Grandparents include Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Daniels and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dorpinghaus.

Richard Tolzin passed away on April 8th at the age of 21 years old.

A large number of Fulda area youngsters enjoyed the Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday along with a visit with the Easter Bunny.

Eldon Larson and his son, Tim won the State Archery Championship held in Mankato on Sunday. Tim took first place in the Youth Barebow (without sights) division while Eldon took first in the Pro Freestyle limited.

The Fulda Fire Department had a busy week responding to  grass fires on Tuesday (Clausen farm), Wednesday (Koopman acreage) and Wednesday evening in Kinbrae where the fire got out of hand at the Grunewald property totalling several buildings. Thursday they were called to the city dump (nothing serious). Friday to the Appel farm where a Corvette was completely destroyed by fire. Saturday Dierks farms lost 10 sows and 80 pigs to a hog barn fire and on Sunday the Henning home in Avoca was completely destroyed. Whew!

The State Department has issued a ban on smoking in all offices and other space owned or leased by the Minnesota Department of Jobs and Training to take effect on July 1st.

Dale Kirsch has verbally accepted the position of Fulda High School Principal. The school board will be given the opportunity to approve his contract at the April meeting.

Fulda Community Survey results discussed at length at council meeting with storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water storage and distribution ranking 3rd, 4th, and 5th.

Brian Koopman is Twin City Open Lightweight Karate Champion. The tournament took place in Minnetonka. Twelve members of Koopman’s School of Self Defense competed.

Linda Martens passed away on April 5 from an accidental gunshot wound. Linda was 25 years old.

City council members discuss emergency weather warning cable TV channel.

Miss Fulda contest sponsored by the Fulda Area Community Club will be held on April 21st.

The new ambulance unit for the Fulda Volunteer Ambulance Association arrived on Thursday.

Three fuel tanks at the old Skelly Station surfaced on their own on Saturday afternoon. The concrete slab had been removed in preparation for removal by Gass Trenching. The heavy rain on Saturday popped the tanks to the surface.

The Gerald Bodelson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9017 received their Golden Anniversary Certificate from Orlin Jackson, State VFW Commander on Sunday.

Fulda High School third Quarter Honor Roll appears in this issue.

Lorraine Stock passed away on April 2, 1997 at the age of 70 years old.

Elmer Brunk passed away April 1, 1997 at the age of 82 years old.

Steve and Margie Salentiny are proud to announce the birth of a son, Thomas, born March 30th. Grandparents include Lawrence and Blanche Salentiny and Donald and Mary Smith.

Paula and Todd Harvey are proud parents of a son, Austin born March 24th. Grandparents include Diane and Dale Danielson and Dick and Karen Harvey.
