THE SHELF By Syd Halverson

Seems summer is finally here.  Boy is it here.  School year is over and so many, many kids at home during the day.  We must remember that it takes a lot of food to feed these always hungry kids.

People ask what should they donate to our food shelf.  I usually reply that whatever you feed your family is the same thing our clients would like to feed their families.

Summer time means more ketchup, mustard, mayo, hot dogs and hamburgers.

Then there is the old standby Spaghetti O’s and now many other canned products to make a quick lunch that kids seem to like.  We also must remember our children love cereal, especially the sugared kind. It is always a treat.  Even if we would like them to eat less sugar.  So there are just a few suggestions…there are many, many more. If you have questions please call me.

The Second Harvest Heartland food truck will be at our Fulda Shelf on Thursday, June 23rd around 9:30 am.  Even when we order products thru SHH, we only receive what they have in stock at the present time.  We are fortunate to be able to order many items so help us stock our shelves.

If you are able to help unload, unpack and put away these food items, please be at the food shelf on June 23 around 9:15 am.  Thanks in advance.
