Coyotes battle Chargers to the wire at Westbrook in a varsity girls’ basketball game

Playing with good intensity and execution from start to finish, the ever-improving Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda varsity girls’ basketball team battled Westbrook-Walnut Grove to the wire in a closely-competitive Red Rock Conference game at Westbrook last Thursday evening, December 6.

With less than five minutes to go, the Coyotes had earned a six-point lead, but the Chargers rallied down the stretch and claimed a narrow 58-55 victory.

“We hung in there the whole game,” declared Coyotes’ head coach Anna Brandt. “Twice, W-WG got offensive rebounds off of missed free throws and gave themselves more chances at the end. We missed 10 free throws in the game, making just five-of-15. But overall, this was a really good game for our girls as it was close and exciting the entire 36 minutes.”
